Off-Grid Solar System
Many people believe off-grid solar systems can be easily put together. In reality, larger off-grid systems used for homes and businesses need to be carefully designed by an experienced solar installer or system designer.
Five main components of an Off-Grid System
- Battery Inverter/charger or Multi-mode hybrid inverter
- Solar inverter (AC) or MPPT Solar charge controllers (DC)
- Battery bank
- Solar panels
- Generator (Optional)
Key considerations when sizing Off-grid solar systems
-
Daily average energy consumption (kWh) – Summer and winter
-
Peak load (kW) – The maximum power drawn from loads
-
Average continuous load (kW)
-
Solar exposure – Location, climate, orientation & shading
-
Backup power options – During poor weather or shutdown
Off-grid solar systems are not connected to the electricity grid and require battery storage. Off-grid solar systems must be designed correctly in order to generate enough power year round and have the necessary battery capacity to meet the installed locations electrical energy requirements or demand.
In South Africa, we, fortunately, have an abundance of sunshine. However, a backup generator or alternative backup power source may be necessary to supplement your electrical demand and recharge the batteries during times when the batteries are inadequately charged due to very bad weather. The size of the backup power source should be adequate to supply energy to your house and charge your batteries at the same time.
Is this the right for you?
If your goal is complete energy independence is your goal, we have a solution and financing options to meet your needs.
We offer a number of flexible financing options available for residential and commercial installations, including options that require little to no up-front costs depending on your qualification for finance.
